Last week, I posted a thought on LinkedIn about leadership and the lasting mark we leave on the people we lead. There was nothing flashy about it, it was just honest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Within days, it reached nearly 65,000 people, generating over 450 reactions and dozens of comments and reposts. People shared it across communities I could never have reached on my own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I paused the celebration to ask myself: What actually happened here?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
The answer, at least in part, comes down to a technical term: the algorithm<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<\/figure>\n\n\n
An Algorithm Can Change the Course of a Thought<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
The LinkedIn algorithm chose to show my post to a few dozen people first. They engaged, commented, and took time to read. Those early signals told the system: \"This is worth pushing further.\"<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
A thought that might have stayed between me and a handful of followers suddenly reached tens of thousands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Here is what fascinated me: an algorithm doesn't create value, it amplifies it or buries it.<\/strong> The exact same idea, dropped into a different context with different early signals, could have passed completely unnoticed. The idea didn't change; the delivery mechanism did.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That\u2019s when it hit me: I navigate this exact same dynamic every day in my work. Only there, the mechanism isn't called an algorithm, it\u2019s called team dynamics<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Every Team Has Its Own Algorithm<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
Beneath the surface, every team operates on a set of unwritten rules: Who speaks up in meetings and who stays quiet. How mistakes are handled. How fast information moves or where it gets stuck. What gets celebrated and what gets ignored<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This is the team\u2019s internal algorithm. Just like social media, it doesn't create people's potential; it amplifies it or buries it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
You can assemble a team of brilliant talent, but if the internal algorithm stifles their voice, ignores key signals, and punishes risk, those ideas die quietly just like a great post no one ever sees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Team coaching doesn't mean swelling team headcount or working harder; it rewrites the algorithm.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
Anatomy of a Winning Team Algorithm<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
Years of guiding teams through transformation have shown me that high-performing team dynamics mirror the exact mechanisms platforms reward:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The First \"Hours\" Matter Tremendously:<\/strong> On LinkedIn, the first 60 minutes determine a post's reach. In a team, the initial sessions and early honest conversations determine whether people believe change is real. The trajectory is set early.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Deep Engagement Beats Quick Reactions:<\/strong> Algorithms favor time spent over a superficial like. Healthy teams operate the same way: prioritizing active listening over polite agreement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Trust Compounds Over Time:<\/strong> A share carries far more weight than a like because someone is putting their reputation on the line. In a team, trust built session by session drives results forward, even when you aren't in the room.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Consistent Signals Beat Isolated Explosions:<\/strong> Posting consistently once a week beats five posts forgotten the next. A small step taken every meeting beats a dramatic annual \"reset.\"<\/p>\n\n\n\n
From Theory to a Real Team<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
I am currently working with a team three sessions into this process, and the shift has been immediate:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Efficiency: Meetings were cut in half through clear role definition.\nSeamless Collaboration: A fluid framework was established to work across departments.\nStrategic Focus: They unblocked an automation project to reclaim their most valuable resource time for strategic thought. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The most vital result, however, won't show up on a spreadsheet. It is trust<\/strong>, that moment when the team begins to believe that real change is possible. From that point on, I am no longer pushing the process; they own it, and I simply guide them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
None of this happened because they worked longer hours. It happened because they stepped out of their comfort zone: calling things as they are, asking uncomfortable questions, and putting in the early effort that only pays off down the road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Instead of a conclusion<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
An algorithm, whether on LinkedIn or inside a company, doesn't make people more valuable. It simply decides whether their value sees the light of day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The difference lies in your willingness to break the pattern, send the right signals, and take that uncomfortable first step before you have guaranteed proof of the outcome.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On LinkedIn, this meant the courage to write something real. In a team, it means the openness to change before you have proof that it's worth it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
